Dr. Kyle McInnis Discusses New School of Nursing and Health Sciences at PC

Chamber President Laurie White recently spoke with Dr. Kyle McInnis, the inaugural Dean of the new School of Nursing and Health Sciences at Providence College.

Dr. Kyle McInnis was recruited to PC last November to spearhead the creation of the School of Nursing and Health Sciences and developing new programs in nursing and health sciences. He previously started a new school of health sciences, which included a nursing program, as founding dean at Merrimack College.

The two discussed plans for the construction of a new nursing and health sciences center on PC's campus. Providence College plans to break ground in 2023 on a 100,000 plus square foot home for the School of Nursing and Health Sciences (SNHS). The design features the latest teaching-learning equipment and immersive simulation scenarios. The building will also contain space for academic research and policy development pursued by SNHS faculty, graduate and undergraduate students dedicated to interdisciplinary advancements in the fields of health science and nursing.

Laurie and Dr. McInnis also spoke about the nursing shortage and the lack of available slots regionally and across the country for students applying for nursing school, the latest healthcare trends, the evolution of care delivery models and what it means to treat patients as a whole person in order to arrive at the best outcomes.
