    • About

Best Buddies creates more inclusive and accepting schools, workplaces and communities for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). By pairing individuals with and without disabilities in one to one friendships, our participants gain new perspectives and life skills which inspire them to become engaged community leaders in the movement to end social isolation for people with disabilities.

Founded in 1989 by Anthony Kennedy Shriver with one original chapter at Georgetown University, Best Buddies International (BBI) has grown into an international 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that champions the rights of people with disabilities through inclusive friendship. Our mission is to establish a global volunteer movement that creates opportunities for one-to-one friendships, integrated employment, and leadership development for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). Today there are more than 1,500 middle school, high school, and college chapters across the country and globally. Established in 2003, Best Buddies Rhode Island (BBRI) is one of 21 state affiliates of Best Buddies International with its headquarters in Cranston. Our mission is carried out through five programs: Best Buddies Middle Schools, High Schools, Colleges, Ambassadors and e-Buddies.

Best Buddies RI currently has programs in 21 schools. For more information please visit our website and Facebook page listed above.
