Celebration to honor lifetime achievements of Chef Jacques Pépin
Prominent food and media personalities from across the country will gather on the evening of September 29, 2023 to celebrate fifty years of excellence in culinary education at Johnson & Wales University. The gala event will take place on the university’s Harborside campus in Providence and will include a special recognition of the life and work of food icon Jacques Pépin ’10 Hon., who will be in attendance.
The special celebration will begin at 5 p.m. with a VIP cocktail reception where guests can mingle with Chef Pépin and other high-profile chefs. Starting at 6 p.m., guests will enjoy fine cuisine prepared by alumni chefs and restaurateurs, current JWU faculty and students, and retired JWU faculty at food stations throughout the university’s unique Culinary Arts Museum. Among the prominent chefs hosting food stations will be Champe Speidel '00, '16 Hon., of Persimmon and Matt Varga '05, of Gracie’s and Ellie’s. Colleen Kranich '18 from Newport Vineyards will host a pastry table.
Invited guests include many high-profile food and media personalities. Currently scheduled to attend are Lorena Garcia ’00, ’14 Hon; Emeril Lagasse ’78, ’90 Hon; David Burke ’12, ’23 Hon.; Chris Cosentino ’94 as well as leaders from every facet of the food, beverage, and hospitality fields.
Event proceeds will support scholarships, travel, and educational experiences for CFIT students as they prepare to join a network of trailblazers in the food industry post-graduation. There will be a silent auction of several high-value items and experiences and a live auction of an original artwork created for the event by Jacques Pépin.
