    Rhode Island College invites applicants for the position of Director, Center for Disability Access and ADA/504 Coordinator. This is a full-time, calendar year, continuing position.

    The Center for Disability Access within the Division of Community, Equity and Diversity, is the central location on campus for disability-related services for students and is a primary resource to educate, train, and guide the college community in understanding disability access, rights, and responsibilities. Approximately 10% (more than 900) Rhode Island College students are registered with the Center for Disability Access to receive accommodations such as testing accommodations and other accessibility services. We serve students with all types of disabilities: mobility, hearing, vision, motor, psychological, learning, attention, speech, medical, developmental, and other conditions.     The Director of the Center for Disability Access and ADA/504 Coordinator provides leadership for a comprehensive disability services program for prospective and enrolled undergraduate and graduate students including evaluation and delivery of timely accommodations as well as services and programming initiatives to support student success.

    As ADA/504 Coordinator, the incumbent serves as a primary resource to coordinate the College’s compliance efforts relative to state and federal disability civil rights law, including educational efforts to train and guide the College community in understanding disability rights, access, and inclusion. The incumbent will work closely with the Human Resources as it relates to relevant ADA employee development and other related matters.

    The Director and ADA/504 Coordinator reports to General Counsel.
     
    Required qualifications:

    • Master’s degree in related field.
    • A minimum of five years of full-time experience in higher education administration with an emphasis on services for students with disabilities; as well as experience with working on institution wide ADA/ 504 compliance strategies that create an inclusive and accessible environment.
    • Knowledge of the ADA and other laws addressing the rights of people with disabilities, such as Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, 29 U.S.C. § 794
    • Knowledge of various alternative formats and adaptive technologies that enable people with disabilities to communicate, participate, and perform tasks
     Preferred qualifications:
    • Master’s degree in special education, education, rehabilitation counseling, psychology, educational psychology, accessibility or social work.
    • Experience with services for students with mental health conditions.
    • Certification in ADA/504 Coordination
    • Bilingual in English / Spanish (fluent in speaking and writing)
