    Introducing Lt. Gov. Sabina Matos


     

    Chamber President Laurie White is spoke with Lt. Governor Sabina Matos who was appointed as the 70th Lieutenant Governor of the State of Rhode Island on April 14, 2021.

    They discussed the Lt. Governor's first weeks in office, her journey from the Dominican Republic to the State House, plans to support small business growth and recovery in the state, housing, child care, workforce issues and other topics impacting the business community today.
     
     
    Prior to her appointment as Lieutenant Governor, she served on the Providence City Council from January of 2011 until April 2021. She was elected as the first Latina to hold the position of City Council President Pro Tempore in 2015, and in 2019 she was elected City Council President by her peers.

    Lieutenant Governor Matos was born in the province of Barahona in the Dominican Republic and later moved to the nation’s capital of Santa Domingo. In April 1994, she moved to the United States, first arriving in New York City, where she lived for a short time before moving to Providence with her family.
