Project Hope, A Summer Jobs Program

A successful summer youth employment program, Project Hope is an eight week program designed to provide students at Hope High School in Providence an opportunity to connect with employers and learn essential business skills.

The product of a public-private partnership comprised of the Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce, the City of Providence, Workforce Solutions of Providence/Cranston Comprehensive Community Action Program and Junior Achievement, Project Hope partners Hope High School students who have completed a Junior Achievement success skills curriculum with area businesses. The students are recruited and screened by a career specialist to ensure they are a good match for each company. In addition, the career specialist monitors and provides support to both the student and the employer throughout the summer.

To participate, local employers are asked to provide up to 35 hours a week of work, paying interns at least the minimum wage which will be $7.40 an hour. The average cost to local employers is just over $2,000.
